Spring cleaning as a family: not just a chore, a time for sharing.
To maintain the family bonds, several types of activity exist. One of these, and not the one you might think of immediately, is the big spring clean. This activity can easily combine utility and fun; all you have to do is find the words that will make everybody feel involved in a positive way.
Alone, we may think of spring cleaning as a chore, but as a family it can be a really enjoyable time for sharing and communication. Tidying as a family is a way to talk with your children. Better still, it allows you to teach them some rules and to discover certain aspects of their personality to better understand them. It is an opportunity to have fun together, to tease each other, and also to clean your home and make it ready for the new season. For your children, it is a great opportunity to give them a way to express themselves. Of course, you will need the method to succeed in this.
What to tidy, why and where to begin
To prepare for spring, you will want to put away your heavy winter clothes, along with toys and various documents. Put last season’s clothes that are no longer of use in a cupboard and make room for new things. Put educational books on one side and leisure reading books on the other. However, you will be in charge of putting away the most important documents. Toys should also have their allocated space. Whatever the arrangement, anything that leads to better organisation inside the house will be of benefit.
Do not hesitate to delegate tasks to optimise your time. If there are several of you, you can work in pairs on tasks to encourage communication. In terms of the time frame, you can begin in the morning after breakfast. Energy levels are highest at the start of the day. But if you prefer, for reasons of availability, early afternoon is also acceptable. Do what seems suitable for you, not forgetting that for this half day to be perfect, it is essential that you treat yourselves when it is over.
