Marine, her new design shop, her two kids, her dog… and her organisation and networking!
Marine is an inspiration to us because everything is pretty about her! Her smile, her apartment, the style design shop that she launched with her associate Nicolas, her children lined up in frames on her desk: even the little dog curled up at her feet is not lacking in style!
The Maison et Objet (Home and Object) exhibition ended this weekend: one month of preparations and a four day marathon to present her new shop. These are the results:
Let’sCo: Tell us a little about your team at the exhibition
It was something of a baptism of fire for Nicolas and I because it is the first collaboration for both of us. Preparing for the exhibition was fairly simple because we shared the tasks evenly. At the exhibition itself, things were quite different because we had not expected to meet so many potential clients. We had to draft in some help right from day two: thank goodness for networking as I got in touch with a former colleague!
Let’sCo: And the children?
I am divorced with joint shuttle custody of my two children (two boys aged 8 and 10) and the dog(!) I try to anticipate the dates of important fairs and travel so that the custody dates coincide. It’s not ideal, but it forces us to get along and find solutions together. My ex doesn’t travel much, so that helps! Alternatively, I have a rock solid list of babysitters: as soon as I find a new one, I add her and I work them in rotation so that I don’t always depend on the same one.
Let’sCo: Any advice on how to co-organise better?
Keep in touch and reactivate your contacts regularly: a phone call, a coffee, an e-mail from time to time. It’s always nice to catch up and there will come a time when that can be of assistance.
Let’sCo: And when the organisation runs into problems?
Polka the dog is the problem: he doesn’t like male babysitters – the last one left a pair of trousers behind!
I check that Polka hasn’t budged from his basket and I make a careful note to catch up with Marine’s news soon: you see how important networking is!
